The Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve is a game reserve situated in the Cradle of Humankind with 600 head of game representing 25 different species. A range of activities are available as well as accommodation with a variety of restaurants to choose from.
The Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve gates are open Tuesday to Friday from 08h00 until 17h00 on weekdays and 08h00 until 18h00 on weekends and public holidays. We are open certain Mondays, please see “Latest News” below. Day visitors are more than welcome to visit and picnic or braai at the Reserve without additional charge.
Accommodation At Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve:
Our accommodation comprises of Stone Chalets or Wooden Log Cabins. The Chalets operates fully on gas & 12 volt lights and the Log Cabins boasts DSTV, Jacuzzi and a braai area on the deck. All accommodation sleeps 4 persons and an additional 2 persons can be provided for on mattresses at an additional fee. The units are self catering and fully equipped. All accommodation can only be acquired on a pre-booking basis – Terms & Conditions apply.
Game Drives are provided for in our open Game Drive vehicles which carries 10 or 20 PAX, depending on the group size. Game drives depart at 09h00, 12h00 and 15h00 with an occasional 17h00 drive. The game drive spans a timeframe of between 1 & half hours to 2 hours maximum. Payment for a minimum of 4 persons are required to commence with a game drive. Terms & Conditions Apply.
Please note that the activities on the Reserve are open from 09h00 until 16h00 and by activities we mean places that hosts the activities like the predator camps, the restaurants, the animal crèche and children play park. The activities are mostly on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays and include a lion, cheetah & Wild dog feeding @ 13h00 in the predator camp then a Live Snake Display at the Kiosk / Day Visitor area @ 14h30 followed by a cheetah talk at 15h00. For the children we have a children play park area.
We usually have a wide variety of animals in our animal crèche area and we mostly have small cubs that the public is allowed to interact with at a small fee and for 5 minutes at a time – Terms & Conditions apply.
The Wondercave is a pristine World Heritage Site in the midst of the Cradle of Humankind and boasts formations enough to take your breath away. The Wondercave is open from 09h00 until 16h00 on Tue – Fri and 09h00 until 17h00 over weekends and public holidays and the tours are leaving every hour on the hour! The Wondercave has its own restaurant with a small a-la-carte menu to be enjoyed with breathtaking views of the Cradle of Humankind.
The Reserve boasts three restaurants at different locations. The Boma Restaurant is situated at the Kiosk or Day Visitors area and has an a-la-carte menu. The Boma also serves a Carvery on Sundays and caters for functions and includes a small Kiosk with cold refreshments, ice cream and other snacks. The Restaurant at the Children’s Play park serves food for mom and dad as well as the children. The Neck & Deck hosts our tame Giraffe and the open Deck makes for a relaxing sit-down serving of waffles, pizza’s, health food for cyclists, and a small a-la-carte menu in the open air.
